Hi,
I build systems and mostly use Asus MBs (also use Gigabyte ). Asus MBs have one or two USB 2.0 headers located in the area you previously indicated .
The card reader should work, all things equal, when you connect the F_P USB 2.0 card reader cable to the correct USB 2.0 MB header.
The MB USB 2.0 header designations are etched on the system board as USB, the header is not etched as "COM".

Greetings,
Welcome to the forum.
I am not a HP employee.
The USB 2.0 card reader should work (assuming it has not failed) if you are connecting the front panel USB card reader cable to a USB 2.0 header on the motherboard (MB).
HP sometimes uses proprietary: front panel connectors and headers on the MB.

That particular card reader is a typical USB cable to a standard USB 2.0 header. Nothing problematic with the theory. Are youi using an SD card, or the newer SDHC ? The older cards will work, the newer higher capacity HC will not.

Hi Sinnamora,
I can't see the image.
HP has to approve. This takes time.
HP may use proprietary front panel connections.
Front Panel = F_P.
The card reader should work if the F_P card reader cable successfully connects to a standard USB 2.0 header on the motherboard. The 10 pin USB 2.0 motherboard header has a missing pin. The F_P USB 2.0 card reader connector has one blocked female connection and can only connect one way.
You got me if this connection does not work.
Are you sure the device works and the connections are compatible and properly seated?
Regards

Hi,
You have circled two MB connections with different missing pin locations. The two adjacent MB connections are similar. it looks like you could connect a USB 2.0 cable to the wrong MB header.
Which MB connection are you using?
Refer to the MB written documentation or the online MB manual to determine which connection is USB 2.0.
Don't make connections to the MB without verifying you are connecting components to the correct MB headers.
The missing pin should be located on the connector to the right of your highlighted circle. Last bottom pin on the connector located towards the right of your image should be the missing pin.
Five top pins. Four bottom pins. Last pin on bottom right is empty. Insert F_P connector so the blank female connector pin location corresponds to the missing pin on the bottom right MB header.
The card reader has failed if you connect this reader to the correct MB header.
I am doing this from memory. Check the MB manual to verify!
