My camera stopped uploading photos to my computer for some reason that I havent worked out yet so I tried taking the SD memory card out and downloading the photos through the card reader, I had never used the card reader before so I checked the cable and seen there are 5 pins on the motherboard and the cable has only 4 wires? I cant send a photo obviously lol  But there is one pin left over, on ''F USB3'' and another number says P26 in smaller lettering for the same plug?  I cant see anywhere else I could plug this cable in? Ive looked for an image of this motherboard to see where it goes with no luck. Any help will be appreciated.

Yes, whether the SD card is in the camera or the reader, Windows will not acknowledge the card.  I tried an older version of Canons photo veiwer but it failed to detect the camera? I will get back with the results of trying another PC on Saturday. Thanks for the help so far its appreciated!

Perhaps I am confused.  Are you saying the card reader does not read the SD card or that it is not connected?  I did find a picture of that area of the motherboard

The F_USB3 jack is just a common front USB jack for a USB header connection.  It should be a molded plug that will fit on the motherboard.  There happens to be another one labeled F_USB2 that has the same pins arrangement, too.  Either one will work.  The first four pins are actually used and the last pin is only for indexing the plug.  The last pin before the space is common or ground and should be a black wire.

Does that help?

Thank you very much! That explains this perfectly for me, I now know the card-reader cable is in the right place!  Now I just have the problem of why the card-reader wont work? The SD memory card itself works in the camera. I had a card-reader in my junkbox for years, thinking it may come in handy some time but I threw it out 2 weeks ago. lol. Ive checked for an updated driver for the card-reader in Device Manager. Should I make another post regarding the card-reader not working or carry on here?

Assuming the card reader was always connected at the point in this discussion, there is a possibility that it cannot read the SD card.  Some cameras will also have a USB cable jack where the camera can be connected to the PC.  If that is the case, see if the PC can read the SD card while in the camera with the camera connected to the PC.

As far as an updated driver for the card reader - most of those devices are common generic USB drivers that Windows provides.

I would try an external card reader or another PC to see if the SD card is able to be read OK.  You can try in Device Manager to see if there is a newer driver for the card reader. but my guess is there will not be one.

The SD memory card works when it is in the camera and I can look through the photos Ive taken. When I connected the camera to my PC to download the photos it stopped working for some reason? I have been through this with Canon customer service techs and Im now waiting for my daughter to come around with her laptop on Saturday to see if my camera will download to her laptop? I connected a portable hard drive to my PC with the same cable and using the same USB port, I was able to view photos and videos so the cable and USB port must be OK?

This is a puzzler.  I read elsewhere that another user was having a similar problem also with a Canon camera and Windows 10.  In that instance the photo app was not working to import picture, etc.

You are saying that even with the SD card in the reader, it will not see the card.

With this instance - just to be clear - when the SD card is in the reader or the camera, the PC does not acknowledge the card or that there are any photos on the card?  Is that the scenario?

Please post back with the results when your daughter has brought the laptop.  I have no words of wisdom on why Windows 10 would have this problem.

In instances such as this, I tend to load a Linux Live CD and see if that works.  Then you can find out if it is Windows or a hardware problem.  If you would be willing to try that, it might help in the troubleshooting.  A Linux Live CD does not change anything on the PC but gives the ability to try another OS without any consequences to the hosting PC.
