Hey guys I’m complete noob at this pc stuff but I recently found my old pc and wanted to change the cpu. I did some research found out the mother board is a hp 843b with a socket size of LGA 1151. I initially had i3-8100 cpu and I up graded to a i5-9400 cpu. I installed and everything but the fan is too loud now and I have no idea what to do lol. Can y’all help me ?

Hi @Benji26
You did a successful CPU upgrade (the PC will POST) from a 8100 to a 9400.
Both CPUs are 65 watt TDP parts so the HP CPU cooler should work.
You might have to redo the CPU thermal paste. Or the CPU cooler is incorrectly mounted to the CPU and the MB.

@ Bill_To Thanks man. I kinda was concerned that it might be the fan. The new stock fan cooler thingy didn’t really fit in the holes because it’s like a different model and it didn’t really secure well. What do you recommend ? Or can I add thermal paste to the old cpu cooler fan that it had ?

Hi @Benji26
My pleasure.
So, did you install a different CPU cooler when you upgraded the CPU? I'm a little fuzzy on what's going on.
I would retry the HP CPU cooler if you used a different CPU cooler. The HP CPU cooler should keep the new CPU cool since it is a 65 watt TDP CPU.

Yea I did change the cup cooler. When the new cpu came in it also came with a new cooler but it had a different built to it than the original one that came with the pc, i have a pavilion model pc. I changed the old cpu and put in the new one, which had like a white plastic with screws on it where you have to push down to secure them to the motherboard, but it really wasn’t secured at all and after that it started to make that loud fan noise. I decided to put back the old cpu cooler that came with the pc and so far it hasn't made any noise. My question now is will it support it ?

Hi @Benji26
The HP cooler should work since the new CPU has a 65 watt TDP.
Upgrading the graphics card depends on the following:
Your PC's case dimensions,
Existing power supply wattage and available PSU PCIe connectors for the new GPU,
What games you want to play and the resolution of your monitor.
Check this YouTube video for graphics cards that will work with a newer HP Txxx series PC.
I don't know your specific HP product number. So I don't know your PC's case dimensions or what power supply you have.

here is a link about the pc that i have.
https://support.hp.com/za-en/document/c06110764
here are the dimensions of the case :
- Height: 33.8 cm (13.3 in)
- Width: 17.0 cm (6.69 in)
- Depth: 27.7 cm (10.9 in)
power supply :
- 180 W SFF (Gold) 12 V Output
- 90% efficiency
i have no idea where i can find the PSU PCIe connecters if you could help me with that with the link i put i would appreciate it.
My monitor resolution is 1920x1080
If you can help me out real quick of which graphics card would be the best, i would appreciate it. Thanks.

Hi @Benji26
My pleasure.
I can't provide a quick fix.
You have a HP 180 watt proprietary power supply.
The following HP only, power supply upgrade options will work with your PC:
HP 400 watt PSU, part number L04618-800.
The HP 500 watt PSU may be compatible, part number L05757-800. I don't know if your case will work with the HP 500 watt power supply.
You can buy either power supply at eBay.
You have to look at the Tech Nit Wit video in my prior response for graphics card upgrade options using either: the HP 400 watt power supply or the HP 500 watt power supply.
