Hello to everyone again, this community is always so helpful to me!

My HP EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF PC Intel Core i5 suffered a hardware failure.

I bought another one on eBay that is "almost" identical to it.  I thought it was exactly identical, but after closer look there is some, little, variation.

This is what my fried one looked like:  https://www.amazon.com/HP-800-G1-Performance-Professional/dp/B07NL4CT8L?th=1

This is the exact one I bought on eBay to replace it with: https://www.ebay.com/itm/165986719834

I have a few questions.  I thought I bought the same exact computer, but it's not exactly the same.  I install Ubuntu lts (Linux) on it, the fried one with Linux on it was more than fast enough for what I do (mainly surf the web and email).

Here are my questions though:

1) I notice the one I bought to replace it with doesn't actually have a cd/dvd drive.  Mine did.  I actually upraded my read only cd/dvd to an HP one that can also write to cd/dvd's - is it possible for me to install my cd/dvd read/writer drive on this one I bought - I still have my fried one and can re-purpose the front "bezel" where it has an opening for the cd/dvd drive.

Actually, the cd/dvd drive isn't that important to me.

What's most important is this question:  Will this computer I just bought take my 2.5" 1 Terabyte SSD drive?   I think it's 2.5" anyways, it's smaller than the HD drive I had in it.  In my fried one, I actually had a 1 terabyte HD that use to be it's primary and only drive, but I made it a secondary drive and bought a 1 TB Samsung smaller drive (an SSD that I think is 2.5" in size) to be it's primary boot drive - and boy did it make it faster!

So my primary concern isn't really about the cd/dvd drive at all.  I just want to make sure I can use my little Samsung SSD in this one I bought, and perhaps also move my 1 TB HD to the one I bought and have it inside as another drive that I use for backup purposes.

I do find it interesting that the one I bought on ebay says it has an optical drive - maybe it's talking about an optical HD and not an optical cd/dvd drive.

Much thanks in advance!

Michael

Addendum:  Apparently this one I bought can't take any drive over 500 gig.   So I asked to cancel the order.  I dunno what it would do if I put my 1 TB ssd in it.

Hi, Michael:

The 500 GB drive capacity is just whnt HP offered in the model series, not the maximum capacity supported.

You can swap out the front bezels and install the DVD drive in a 800 G1 SFF that doesn't come with the DVD drive if you decide to buy another one without a DVD drive.

I refer to the HP Quickspecs link for the Elitedesk model series which is more comprehensive than the info you found.

ManualsLib - Makes it easy to find manuals online!

If you look on pages 8 & 9 of the model series, 1 TB drives were offered.

I don't see any reason why the model series couldn't support a 2 TB drive.
