Just about any graphics card will be compatible with your HP Z230 Tower, as you can see here: UserBenchmark: HP Z230 Tower Workstation Compatible Components.
But in order to power high(er) end graphics cards, you'll need to upgrade your power supply first. Best -and easiest way to do this, is by using an ATX power adapter, such as this one as shown via this Amazon-US link: Amazon.com: YEZriler 24 Pin to 6 Pin ATX Power Adapter Sleeved Cable for HP Z200 Z230 4300 6080 8080..., but you can purchase these adapters anywhere, such as via AliExpress.
Just make sure you purchase one of these adapters specifically specced for an HP Z230:
What this adapter will do for you is to replace your stock HP power supply and replacing it with an industry standard ATX power supply. Make sure that the ATX power supply's dimensions (LxWxH) are a fit for your desktop. Just follow the (simple) instructions, and you are good to go.
