OMEN by HP 40L Gaming Desktop PC GT21-0000a IDS Base Model

I have HP 40L Gaming Desktop PC GT21-0000a, Product number 3Y027AV, with a Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card.

It looks like it has a 600W PS (in the documentation, 600W Power Adapter) installed.

I use the computer mainly for photo editing and following an upgrade to Lightroom Classic that incorporated an AI based noise reduction feature, now when trying to run this feature the computer shuts down and restarts. I have the latest drivers and software updates installed.

The feature was working fine for a few weeks until this issue, not sure what if anything has changed.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Hi @GazzaE,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand that your HP 40L Gaming Desktop PC (GT21-0000a) with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 shuts down and restarts when using the AI-based noise reduction feature in Lightroom Classic. You mentioned that it worked fine for a few weeks before the issue started, and your drivers and updates are up to date. Let’s try a few steps to narrow this down:

Check for Overheating

AI-based noise reduction is GPU-intensive and can cause sudden shutdowns if the GPU or CPU overheats.

Install a tool like HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner to track temperatures.

If temps exceed 85–90°C, consider cleaning dust, improving airflow, or reapplying thermal paste.

Power Supply Check

Your RTX 3060 recommends a minimum 550W PSU, but depending on system load, your 600W PSU could still be stressed.

If possible, test with another PSU (650–750W) to rule out a failing or underpowered power supply.

Run GPU Stress Tests

Use tools like FurMark or Unigine Heaven to stress-test your GPU.

If the PC shuts down during testing, it points to a PSU or GPU hardware issue.

Windows Event Viewer Logs

Press Win + X > Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System.

Look for “Kernel-Power” or critical errors around the time of shutdown. This will help confirm if it’s a power-related issue.

Lightroom / Driver Rollback

Since this issue started after recent updates, try rolling back the NVIDIA driver to a previous stable version.

Also, check if the previous Lightroom version works without crashing.

BIOS and Chipset Updates

Visit the HP Support Page for your model and ensure the latest BIOS and chipset drivers are installed, as these can improve system stability under heavy loads.

I hope this helps.

Hi Kurio_Kenshi

In regard to the issue below it appears to be a thermal issue with the CPU. I was running a few of the HP Hardware Diagnostic tests and when running the UEFI Fan Speed and Thermal Test (under Device Check, Processor) during the thermal test at around 60% completion the system shuts down. When powering back up an error message occurs stating the "Cooling fan is not operating correctly, and the system will shut down to avoid damage ......". Under that message is "CPU Pump 90B"

I have opened the desktop and cleaned the fans/filters/radiator (liquid Cooled) but continue to get the same error when running the test again.

Not sure now if it's just the fan or the liquid cooling system, suggestions?

Thanks Garry

Hi @GazzaE,

Thanks for the update and for running the diagnostics—it’s very helpful. Based on the error message “CPU Pump 90B” and the fact that your system shuts down during the thermal test, it seems like the issue is related to the liquid cooling system rather than software or the PSU.

Here are the next steps you can try:

1. Check the CPU Pump Connection

Power down the PC and unplug it.

Open the case and make sure the CPU pump is securely connected to the motherboard (usually to the CPU_FAN or PUMP_FAN header).

Verify the pump’s power cable is firmly attached to the pump unit itself.

2. Inspect the Pump and Radiator

Even though you cleaned the fans and radiator, check for signs of pump failure: unusual noise, vibrations, or no flow inside the tubing.

Make sure the radiator isn’t clogged internally.

3. Test Pump Function

If your pump has a visible indicator (some models have a small LED or you can feel slight vibration), confirm it spins when powered on.

If it doesn’t run, the pump may need replacement.

4. BIOS / Firmware Check

Some HP systems have firmware settings for liquid cooling detection. Make sure your BIOS is updated to the latest version for your GT21-0000a.

Reset BIOS to default settings and check if the error persists.

I hope this helps.

Your PC shutting down during AI noise reduction likely points to a **power supply issue** or **thermal throttling**. The RTX 3060 + CPU under heavy load can spike power draw, and your 600W PSU might be **failing** or hitting its limit. Try this: * **Monitor temperatures** (GPU/CPU) to rule out overheating * **Check PSU health** or test with a higher-watt PSU (650W–750W recommended) * **Reset BIOS**, and make sure power settings are set to **balanced or high performance** * If the issue started recently, roll back any **recent software or driver updates** If all else fails, it may be an early sign of PSU wear or a faulty component under load.
