Greetings,

Welcome to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

I want to fully understand what is happening.

You shut down windows using the operating system. Now, the PC power switch does not work.

The PC will only start if you disconnect from AC power and the reconnect to AC power.

Is this correct?

I would think you may have a external power supply problem because the power switch is working. It could be the switch.

You could have an intermittent short with the PSU, the switch, or the motherboard.

Try only using a a mouse and keyboard to see if the symptom persists, try different USB ports. A intermittent short can occur when you have faulty peripheral devices connected to the PC or a short in a USB port could cause erratic system behavior.

Thanks for your feedback. I leave the computer on and it shuts down on its own after a period of inactivity. Sometimes moving the mouse or hitting "enter" will reactivate it. Others time not. When off, I have to unplug for a few seconds, and then the power switch will activate the computer. It also seems very slow to boot and load the programs even though there is not anything particularly large or a huge number of programs.

@Yankel48,

If you had said that before, I do believe @Grzwacz  would have another opinion.

"Sometimes moving the mouse or hitting "enter" will reactivate it. Others time not".

The key to your problem IMHO, is underlined above.

Go into Power Options. Put both to Never. This will test the system. Let run 24 hours.

This system is feedback driven thru Solution and Kudo flags. It's the only means of knowing if you have been served. Please click Accept as Solution, if your problem is solved. To say THANK YOU, press the "thumbs up symbol" to render a KUDO. You can render both Solution and KUDO..

Hi,

Good thoughts Wb2001.

I could be sending Yankel48 on a wild goose chase.

Just had a similar problem with a client's PC. The problem only happened when using Sleep. The PC worked great other than the weird sleep issue.

Tried a clean W10 install on a different SSD. All Power settings were good to go. All system drivers updated, all windows updates installed. Tried a bare bones setup. Nothing solved the sleep problem.

Had to RMA the motherboard.

Not clear if this is a sleep issue. Having to unplug the PC from AC power to start the system is very strange.

Run some HP hardware diagnostics (failing HDD or memory??). Again, motherboard, power switch, power supply?

Regards
