Hi HP Community,
I'm looking into upgrading my current server setup and came across the HP ProLiant ML370 G5 Rack Server with dual 2.66 GHz Xeon processors. It seems like a solid option for my needs, but I have a few questions before making the purchase:
Compatibility with Modern OS: Has anyone successfully run more recent operating systems, like Windows Server 2016/2019 or a modern Linux distribution, on the ML370 G5? Are there any known issues or limitations?
Performance for Virtualization: I plan to use this server for virtualization (running a few VMs). How does the Xeon 5150 processor perform under virtualization workloads? Is the ML370 G5 still a viable option for this purpose, or would I be better off looking at newer models?
RAM Upgrade: What’s the maximum supported RAM for this server? Would upgrading the RAM significantly improve performance, and are there specific brands or types of RAM that are recommended for compatibility?
Power Consumption: Given the age of this server, how does it fare in terms of power consumption and heat generation? Any tips on keeping it energy-efficient?
Future-Proofing: While this server seems to fit my current budget, how future-proof is it for modern workloads? Should I be concerned about potential bottlenecks in the near future?
I'd appreciate any insights or experiences you can share regarding this server model, especially in a modern IT environment.
Thanks!
