So I own an HP Compaq Elite 8300 CMT and I recently got a Intel Core i7-3770 Processor for it. I currently have an Intel Core i5-3470. Everytime I put the processor in with new thermal paste and it's properly in.. I attempt to boot up my PC and there is nothing on the display, After a few seconds the fans inside the PC all run at the maximum speed while nothing is on my monitor. Is there any type of fix for this?
I'm not sure if my motherboard is compatible or not or if it's my power supply. please help me!!

Welcome to our HP User Forum!
Your HP Compaq Elite 8300 CMT is compatible with the i7-3770, and has a 77-watt TDP (Thermal Design Power), the same as for an i5-3470. In other words, there should be zero issues to switch over to an i7-3770.
My suspicion is that the i7-3770 is defective in some way. Please look carefully at the bottom of the CPU with a magnifying glass and see if there is anything stuck or bend or if something looks discolored. Use the i5-3470 as your template for comparison.
Kind Regards,

I have 4 of the same processors just to make sure that it wasn't defective. All 4 of the i7-3770's that I put into my Computer. It does what I mentioned earlier! Nothing on the display and after awhile they spin at Max speed with nothing on the display still!

Hi Leavemealone012,
Please let me know if you have this issue with multiple RAM sticks and if you tried leaving only one of them.
My story is the following: Need to upgrade HP Compaq 8300 Elite form i5 3470 to i7 3370. It has 2 RAM sticks (M378B5173QH0-CK0, Samsung DDR3 1600Mhz 4GB) perfectly running with i5 3470. After I swapped the i5 to i7 I have the same situation, adding that there are 5 short beeps. As I learnt, this might indicate RAM issue. So I tried removing 1 (of 2) stick - the device booted up. So I did some experiments with RAM and here's what I found:
-Both RAM stick can work with 3770 if you use them separately. Meaning you have 1 slot in use
-It does not matter which slot (out of 4) you use - system boots as long as you are using 1 RAM stick
-Plugging 2 sticks of RAM cause black screen and 5 beeps no matter what order or which slots
-Having both in A channel, both in B channel (dual channel), one in A second in B (single channel) does not change the situation - it will not boot,
So I switched back to i5 3470 to confirm no socket pins were damaged or dusted - yep, i5 still boots perfectly with 2 RAM sticks.
I checked BIOS - 02.90 version was used. So I upgraded to the latest one 03.08 (you have to flash 02.99 first, by the way). After that I tried swapping to i7 once again - nothing changed unfortunately.
I would have assumed that CPU has some issue with memory controller preventing it from working with multiple sticks for some reason, but there are 3 things that make me doubt it:
1) I don't see any visible defects on the i7 CPU. Maybe my magnifying glass is not strong enough, but it seems pretty identical to the i5
2) Most cases with CPU memory controller issues describe dual channel issues only - meaning that it should work when you use 1st stick in A-slot + 2nd stick in B-slot, causing it to run the memory in single channel. This is not the case
3) You are saying 4 CPUs were checked, making me wonder whether I should return the CPU to the online store, claiming it is deffective.
Unfortunately I am not able to check the CPU on some other MoBo, LGA1155 is not widely available for now, same goes for DDR3 RAM.
Would be grateful if you can confirm that your case is similar, meaning it is not booting with multiple RAM sticks only. Maybe you even figured out what was the case by this time.
Hi NonSequitur777,
Do you have working 8300 with i7 3770? Can you share you configuration, please? RAM, BIOS version, any specific settings
