Thanks, from all the people googing this topic....for letting us know that 600 watt worked out.

I know its old, but too many post left with cliff-hanger solutions- which doesnt help future researchers like me.

So, it seems the conclucion (from this forum and others) is that most HP desktops from this era seems to have a maximum PSU limitation of 650 watt.

Hi,

Thanks for your follow up.

Ideally, there should be no upper

limitation on PSU wattage for motherboards.

As long as you meet the miniumum wattage

requirements, whatever size larger wattage you

might have, the motherboard should adjust itself

to meet it's needs.  But the big computer companies

manage to sneak in proprietory circuits, hidden adjendas,

unknown cost concerns and factory limitations, etc.

and we end up with illogical, puzzling surprises.

I first installed an 800 Watt PSU and the

computer would not power up period.

I callled Thermaltake to complain, they had no answers.

In the end because so many people on this forum suggested

a 600 Watt PSU, I got a Corsair 600 Watt, Bronze and I was good to go.

And the computer still works great to this day!
