Hi
What are the symptoms? Are you positive it is the motherboard and processor. Processors are less susceptible to damage unless pins (AMD) are bent or the processor is toast.
You can purchase a replacement motherboard at the following sites:
Ebay.
Some or all of the products are, or may be refurbished. Buyer beware!

The internet port periodically dies (in and out). I don't think anything is faulty with old CPu. I knew I had issues with hard drive. Computer was really slow. (7yr old) It started to go into an automatic scan for errors when booting up and would never finish, inspite of doing regular mantenance. I had to turn it off, reboot to skip the scan. Before that I had freeze ups. changed hard drive and did a complete restore. It helped considerably. I bought new board from Ascendtech and I thought I move up to a quad core CPU. Installed new board with new cpu and all hell broke loose. Ran setup, no info for computer name (part number, mine is s5610f but came up P6730f), wrong serial number. Saying all of that, I just installed the old board with new CPU (Phenom II x4 830) On bootup it went into a chkdsk and fixed some errors and it's been running ok. It there a special process in changing motherboads.

Hi
Correct me if I am not following what happened.
You replaced the factory motherboard (AMD) with an Intel motherboard? I am saying this because an HP p6730f has an Intel H57 Express chipset and supports the following processors:
- Intel Core i7-8xx (Lynnfield core)
- Intel Core i5-7xx (Lynnfield core)
- Intel Core i5-6xx (Clarkdale core)
- Intel Core i3-5xx (Clarkdale core)
But you stated you installed the new AMD processor (Phenom) in the old motherboard. So I am very confused as to what is happening.
You now have a new PC if you installed an Intel MB. The current factory installed Windows 7 operating system will never activate because it is tied to the failing factory AMD motherboard.
You need to use an exact AMD replacement motherboard if you want to run the current HP factory operating system. Microsoft will probably activate but you may have to call them and explain what you did.
HP would have to add microcode to the new, H-APRICOT-RS780L-uATX motherboard so it would be correctly identified.
The PC is seven years old. The costs to do this would far outweigh any benefits.
Enjoy the PC if it is working good with the new Phenom installed.

I did use the hp H-APRICOT-RS780L-uATX motherboard, HP 624832-001. but it did not have the micro code for s5610f. it had the hp p6730f system identifier, which i bought from Ascendtech. How do I get it recoded.
This is a desktop that I don't use very often, only once in while. I have some old peripharals attached to it. I would prefer to invest in a really good laptop in the future. The investment was really not that much. ($160).
summation of events.
1. Ethernet port goes in and out.
2. Started getting hard drive errors, system started freezing, replaced HD.
2. Switch to wireless reciever connection until I replace the board.
3. Decided to order MB, also thought to switch to a Quad core processor, so order processor. Maybe not the best choice though.
4. Put new processor on new board and installed.
5. Everything malfunctioned.
6. For experimental purposes installed new CPU on old board and put back into PC.
7. Initial startup did some error checking that fixed what ever was wrong and it seems to be working, including the ethernet port for now.

Hi Walter
The Ascendtech MB (HP 624832-001) is an AMD motherboard, but Windows 7 (HP System Information software) shows an HP p6730f, which is an Intel motherboard (MB). Windows 7, HP OEM version, may have entered reduced functionality mode because of this.
I would have contacted Ascendtech about this issue as soon as it happened. The new MB from Ascendtech was faulty per your summation of events or Windows 7 would not activate. Again, I would have created an RMA to return the bad MB to Ascendtech.
The new CPU works good when installed in the factory motherboard.
Why do you want HP to add microcode to the possible faulty MB purchased from Ascendtech?
You would have to contact HP. HP may not offer this option as your PC is almost eight years old. The cost to fix the microcode may exceed any possible benefit.

No I don't want to put the microcode if the board is faulty. I misunderstood what you were saying. I thought the board was malfunctioning because it did not have the microcode. I will send the board back to Ascendtech.
Thanks
Walter
