I have a HP pro 2000 micro tower
the motherboard is a p7-1253 bios 8.20 latest
current cpu is a pentium g870 at 3.1ghz. It says for this motherboard the cpu upgrade path is really any i3,i5,i7 series cpu non k. But I don’t want to buy a cpu and have it not be compatible.
I am planning on buying a i5 3570. It’s within the boundaries. Is there any reason it won’t work? Or am I just paranoid it won’t work cause of a locked bios or prebuilt computers.
thank you in advance

@Dawson47 , welcome to the forum.
Is this your computer? http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01944559
If so, there is a list of compatible processors on Page 2. If not, please furnish a link to yours. The information that you provided doesn't match what is in the Illustrated Parts and Service Map in my link.

Here is the link to my computer
this brings me to the normal product overview and has some descriptions of the pc but does not tell me any upgrades for my exact computer. When I try to follow the product hardware link it says the page doesn’t exist. My computers product number is
588911-002
its lga 1155
2 dvi ports on the motherboard
1 pcie x16
3 pcie x1
1 mini pcie
4 pin power
usb 3.0 header
2 ram slots
if I google the motherboards upgrade path it brings me to a page with the motherboard but it’s in a different computer.
https://support.hp.com/ca-en/document/c03360587
the motherboard a p7-1253 and should be compatible provided it’s not locked.
thanks again

Thank you for the additional information, @Dawson47!
The two links that you provided are for two separate computers; P7-1253 and HP Pro 2000 MT. You can't use the information from the P7 to upgrade your computer. The link that I provided in my original post will give you all of the upgrade information for your computer. HP has their motherboards made to their specifications. Therefore, they are not necessarily the same as retail boards. The components listed in the Illustrated Parts and Service Guide have been fully tested to assure they are compatible with the motherboard. If a component is not on the list it most likely won't work.

I’m sorry but the link you originally listed is for an outdated version. The one you listed is an lga 775 socket. The computer I have is lga 1155. The motherboard I have is p7-1253. Is the i5 3570 compatible with that motherboard or no. I’m aware it could be an upgraded system board.
thanks again

@Dawson47, so far, we haven't made much progress. 😉
Here is the computer that your link leads to: https://support.hp.com/ca-en/product/hp-pro-2000-microtower-pc/4047714
There is no information on upgrades that I can find. Also, if you could find a link to the motherboard it would help. The number that you gave is for another HP computer model.
