Hello! I recently bought a HP Elite mini 600 G9 desktop PC which came with a 8GB DDR4 3200 MHz so-dimm. According to the available datasheet, the PC could be upgraded to a maximum of 64 GB DDR5 4800 MHz. I purchased such kit and I have the biggest surprise when trying to put in place the DDR5: it would’t fit into the 2 available so-dimm slots. How is this even possible and what would be the obvious solution to upgrade to said DDR5?
Cheers,

HP specs for the 600 G9 I have looked at state DDR5. Somehow you got a DDR4 MB.
It is not possible to install DDR5 memory modules in a DDR4 memory slot.
I would contact HP Support or HP Sales.

Hi Bill, thanks for replying. The datasheet says, I quote: Maximum memory: 16 GB DDR4-3200 SDRAM; 64 GB DDR5-4800 SDRAM
Transfer rates up to 3200 MT /s.; Transfer rates up to 4800 MT /s.
*Memory modules support data transfer rates up to 3200MT /s for DDR4 and support up to 4800 MT /s for DDR5; actual data rate is determined by the system's configured processor. See processor specifications for supported memory data rate.
** All memory slots are customer accessible / upgradeable.
Hence my very unpleasant surprise when trying to upgrade the DDR modules. I cannot see no mention that it is either DDR4 or DDR5.
I will try to contact support or sales, but there is no direct sales department in my country.

My pleasure.
I checked your PC's specs at this Site. I did not see any reference to a DDR4 MB option.

I believe that you are mistaken in either the identifying information of your laptop or the memory module format.
Another possibility is that you were shipped or given the wrong module type. That can happen to anyone.
Both Kingston Memory and Crucial Memory state that DDR5 is the memory format for the Elite Mini 600 G9 laptop.
They are both major memory manufacturers and when they recommend a memory module compatibility they stake their company reputation on what they say.
Kingston Memory
Crucial Memory

Hi Erico,
thanks for your reply! The datasheet clearly states DDR4 or DDR5, but my mini PC came straight with a DDR4 module which, as Bill said, is quite different from the DDR5 module. When comparing them, i noticed the split of the DDR5 was asymmetrical to the one of the DDR4 module. There is absolutely no way a DDR5 module would fit into the memory slots this mini PC has.

Hi Bill,
Well, my elite pc came with the DDR4 modules, but I bought it thinking it will be an easy upgrade after reading said datasheet. My bad! I’ll contact the people from support though and figure it out!

Download and run CPU-Z.zip (portable) available at this site to verify DDR4 or DDR5 factory memory modules.
Somebody, either HP or the memory supplier, may have made a mistake.
