Hi @anasse84,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

A "Disk Read Failure" error typically indicates an issue with your hard drive or SSD, where the system is unable to read or access the data stored on it. This can result in your PC becoming slow or unresponsive.

Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue.

Check for loose connections: If you're using a desktop with an internal hard drive, make sure all cables (power and data) connecting the hard drive to the motherboard are securely attached.

Run a Hard Drive Diagnostic:

  • Restart the computer and press the Esc key to access the startup menu.
  • Select F2 for System Diagnostics.
  • Choose the Hard Drive Test to run a detailed test on your hard drive or SSD.
  • Note any error codes that appear. If there is a failure, it could indicate that the drive is failing and needs to be replaced.

Try booting in Safe Mode:

  • Restart the computer and press F8 during boot-up to enter Advanced Boot Options.
  • Select Safe Mode. This will load only essential drivers and might allow the system to be responsive enough to back up important data.

Check for disk errors manually:

  • Open Command Prompt as an administrator (right-click the Start button and select Command Prompt (Admin)).
  • Type chkdsk /f and press Enter. This will scan your drive for errors and attempt to fix them.

Backup important data: If the disk is still readable, back up your important files as soon as possible. If the drive is failing, you may lose access to your data.

Consider replacing the drive: If the test shows hardware failure, your hard drive or SSD may need to be replaced.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
