Hi, i'm sitting here in front of multiple HP Elite SFF 800 G9 and they need some NIC's in them.
If I install the NIC's the pc won't go into Windows or even into the bios.
I thought it was because of the Companies Default Bios settings so I did a Factory reset (with the NIC's uninstalled)
this was the first step in the correct way, it booted into Windows 11.
Then i wanted to test what setting was the Root cause but when i tried to get into the bios i got the same issue as before.
I restarted the pc and then i couldn't even come into windows.
I uninstalled the NIC's again and updated the Bios from 2.6.0 to 2.70 this did nothing.
I Rolled back the driver updates from 2.7.0 -> 2.5.1 this was even worse.
then a DMA protection error came up which led me to the setting to turn it off or at least that only Thunderbolt is protected not the PCI slots.
I tried that and it worked!
but here is my question: since DMA Protection is a Security necessity how can i get it to work without turning the DMA Protection on the PCI slots off?
NIC: hp 728562-001
PC: HP Elite SFF 800 G9 PC RCTO Base Model

what model number are the nic(s)?
quite a few server nic models will not work in consumer systema and those that do may require hardware mods
also some cards server/consumer may need a larger than normal amount of free bios address space causing out of address space error messages
stick with consumer nic cards most of these will work in almost any PC configuration

as i suspected, the card you have is a server type card. replace it with a consumer card or one that HP has certified with your model system (check HP quickspecs)
