Current DVD writer is GUD1N - HP#  849055-6C7  Could I replace it with a GUD1N - HP# 849055-6F7

These are both GUD1N dvd drives but the bezels are different. Can the bezels be swapped?

Hi @DT1956

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It looks like both DVD writers—GUD1N - HP# 849055-6C7 and GUD1N - HP# 849055-6F7—belong to the same model series, but their bezels differ. Generally, HP optical drives use snap-on bezels, meaning they can often be swapped if the mounting clips and alignment match.

Here’s what you can do to check compatibility:

Compare the Mounting Clips

  • Remove the bezel from your current 849055-6C7 drive.
  • Inspect the attachment points and clips.
  • Compare them with the 849055-6F7 bezel.

Check the Drive Faceplate Shape

  • Some bezels have slight curvature or alignment differences.
  • Ensure the new bezel fits flush with the desktop case.

Test the Fit Before Installation

  • Try snapping the 849055-6F7 bezel onto the 849055-6C7 drive.
  • If it clicks into place securely, it should work.

If the bezels don’t align properly, you may need to find a compatible replacement bezel rather than swapping them.
