I'm having issues with my desktop. It's an HP ALL IN ONE, Windows 11. She works, and it says its performance is in good condition, but for I think it runs slowly. I've restarted it several times and performed a factory reset as well. It's about 5 years old. Idk how many years they're able to handle before buying a new one, or if it matters. Can someone give me some advice, please?

Hi @BoNBoN68,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand your HP All-in-One on Windows 11 feels slow even though it reports good system health, and you’re wondering whether it’s worth keeping or upgrading. Let’s go through some troubleshooting and advice.

1. Check System Specifications

Go to Settings > System > About and note:

Processor (CPU)

Installed RAM

Storage type (HDD or SSD)

A 5-year-old All-in-One may have an HDD instead of an SSD, which can slow performance significantly, even if Windows reports “good health.”

2. Free Up Disk Space and Optimize Storage

Ensure your C: drive has at least 15–20% free space.

Run Disk Cleanup:

Press Windows + S, type “Disk Cleanup,” select C: drive, and remove temporary files.

Check for fragmentation (if using HDD) and defragment via Optimize Drives.

3. Check Background Processes

Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.

Go to Startup tab and disable programs you don’t need at boot.

In Processes tab, see which apps are using high CPU, memory, or disk.

4. Update Drivers and Windows

Go to Settings > Windows Update and install all updates.

Use HP Support Assistant to update drivers, especially graphics, chipset, and storage drivers.

5. Consider Hardware Upgrades

RAM upgrade: If your All-in-One has ≤8GB, adding RAM can noticeably improve performance.

SSD upgrade: Replacing an HDD with an SSD gives one of the largest speed improvements.

6. Other Tips for Older Systems

Keep startup programs minimal.

Avoid running heavy apps simultaneously.

Use a lightweight browser instead of multiple Chrome tabs if possible.

I hope this helps.
