The fan continues to run after the desktop is shut down.    It continues, even if I unplug the power.  I just returned afetr a 2-day vacation, the desktop having been shut down before I left, and the fan was running!     Do I need to remove the motherboard battery temporarily and then re-insert it?    What will be the impact of that?    Any bios setting that needs to be adjusted?

Greetings @ChakMul

Thanks for the post and Welcome to HP Forums.

I understand that you are facing an issue with your computer where the internal fan keeps running even after shutting down the computer, is that right?

Not to worry, I will be glad to assist you.

Have you tried to update all the drivers using HP Support Assistant?

Recommend you run HP Support Assistant on your computer to make sure BIOS, Chipset and other drivers are updated. Click here to know more about HPSA.

Once all the drivers are updated, shut down the computer using the Windows menu/button and check if it resolves the issue you are facing.

If the issue persists, restart your computer, open Control panel by doing a right-click on the Windows button.

Select troubleshooter in the control panel and select power troubleshooter and follow the on-screen instructions.

Let me know if this helped.

@ChakMul,

You stated the power cord was removed from the desktop computer, and the internal fan continued to spin?  The fan is 12v, the coin battery is only 3 v.

No help with suggestions to date.  But here is an update on the situation.   This morning, before I turned on the desktop (fan could be heard running), I opened up the box and discovered it was NOT the main fan that was running.  It was the fan on the NVIDIA GTX 1080 board that was running.

I have been having issues with this board that were never solved, namely that I cannot hook up three monitors to the three display ports, having to settle with connecting two to display ports and the third to the DVI port.  This does not affect the visual output or resolution, but it is curious that this feature of the three ports was not functional.

Another minor annoyance is that every now and then, perhaps once a day, one of the display ports winks out for about 5 seconds, then comes back on.   I have checked that it is the port that is the issue, not the monitor.

So this all could be an issue of a defective graphics card.    How do you suggest I proceed.
