@Kittyfuzz1,

Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums.  After reading your post I see that you need assistance regarding assistance to disable the onboard graphics card of your desktop.  It will be a delight to assist you here.

Superb analysis and brilliant diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you on that score. 🙂

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:

  • Do you face any display issues?
  • Are you connecting the computer to external screens?
  • Please send an image of the back of your computer to check where the video cable is connected?

For now, let me keep you posted about a few things here:

  • The integrated graphics card gets disabled by default when an external graphics card is added or installed.
  • If there is no display on the computer’s monitor there is a possibility that you have connected it to the integrated graphics port of the computer.
  • Please connect it to the other graphics port of the computer for it to work correctly only if this is the case.

If the issue continues and you have poor graphics, then update the bios and graphics drivers by following these steps:

  • Right-Click on start button> click device manager> expand display adapters>then select the display drivers that are listed and right-click on it and uninstall the drivers.
  • Check the box that states delete the software for this device.
  • Then restart the computer and update the bios, chipset and graphics drivers from this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-gaming-690-0000-pc-series/19769765/mode...
  • Please select the correct operating system and follow the on-screen instructions to update it.

This should fix any graphics related issues.

If you plan to connect the computer to an external monitor then check these steps from this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03319404 (HP Desktop PCs - Connecting Monitors and TVs to Your PC (Windows 10, 8, 7)

Perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. Good luck to you. I will keep a watch for your response.  Please note that I am not overloading you with steps but instead, giving you more information to work with. We are as eager as you are to get the issue fixed. I request you to perform all these steps till the issue is fixed.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

This PC has a discrete video card. There should me no need for an onboard GPU. Onboard graphics usees about 1GB of memory.  There are no problems with having 2 active Graphics, but it would save memory. My monitor is plugged into the Radeon 550 HDMI port. There is no way to disable it in the BIOS.

Irad the quick response and the update. It is great to hear from you again.. That is how all HP desktop computers are designed. Your splendid technical skills, immense patience and immaculate attitude are greatly appreciated. Kudos to you for that. 🙂

Like I said before, the moment an external graphics card is installed on the computer, the onboard internal video card is disabled. Please check this link: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Disable-onboard-graphics/td-p/5... which is authored by a very competent and reputed HP forum expert @Big_Dave. It has been accepted as a solution.

I am being honest about it by keeping your best interest in mind.
