Hi @solargrave,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like the ribbon cable may have been disconnected or damaged during the process of removing the screen. Here’s how you can troubleshoot and potentially fix the issue.
Steps to Fix Ribbon Cable Connection for the Display:
Power Off & Disconnect:
- Ensure that the computer is powered off and unplugged before you proceed.
Inspect the Ribbon Cable:
- Look for any visible damage or wear on the ribbon cable itself.
- Make sure the connector on the ribbon cable is intact and undamaged.
Re-seat the Ribbon Cable:
- Gently but firmly reinsert the ribbon cable into the connector slot on the LCD and motherboard.
- Ensure that the cable is fully inserted. Some ribbon connectors require the locking tab to be lifted before the ribbon is inserted, and then locked down afterward.
Check for Locking Mechanism:
- Most ribbon cables have a small plastic clip or locking mechanism that holds the cable in place. Make sure the clip is not missing, broken, or loose.
- If you forgot to lock the tab down after inserting the cable, it might not make proper contact.
Test the Display:
- Once the cable is reconnected, power on the computer and check if the display works. If not, try gently reseating the cable and ensure the connectors are clean.
Possible Issues:
- Loose or Damaged Ribbon Cable: If the ribbon cable is loose or damaged, it can prevent the display from functioning.
- Missing Locking Clip: If you’re missing a locking clip, it’s essential to replace it. Without proper tension, the cable won’t stay securely connected.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
