- Do HP BIOS updates ever add GPU support?

I have a HP M01-F3224 desktop PC (erica8 mb) with a 400w PSU and am considering adding a GPU.
I've read through the recent posts about GPU upgrades and it is at best questionable that my system will work with the latest AMD (90x0) and Nvidia (50x0) GPUs, and it is most likely due to limitations put in the HP firmware/BIOS.
My question is if HP has recent history of adding support for new GPUs to firmware/BIOS updates to my class of systems that are couple of years old? Or is it wishful thinking that it could happen?

That is a very good question.
I am also impacted by this issue. In my case, it is an HP Pavilion TP01-3003w fitted with a Reno motherboard (SSID: 89B5), which is not compatible with an RTX 5070, even though the upgraded 650-watt power supply (also compatible with your PC btw) would provide sufficient wattage to power it.
I have requested a (BIOS/microcode update, but that was a year ago. The cynic that I have become believes that it is indeed wishful thinking that HP will ever bother to make the RTX 50xx and RX 90xx graphics cards compatible with our systems...

Thanks for the response. I've read your posts and appreciate your insights. You've been a great resource to the community!
I dug into your experience with the TP01-3003W a little deeper, wondering if it, and the RTX 40x0 series release could doesn't provide any precedence. Unfortunately, the system and the GPU release dates are pretty close. So, even if the system didn't support the GPU at release, because it was still being sold and active warranty support, it's likely it would have been added to that system platform during that time frame.
I am hoping one of the HP employee volunteers could chime in on general company policy. I'm leaving this question post open a day or so to give them an opportunity.
As a former HP employee from more than 25 years ago, it pains me to cynically say, there is no financial motivation for HP to add support now to an out of warranty system. In fact, if there is any incentive at all, it is to not add support to encourage new system purchases. Times have changed. I didn't really think about this before posting. In my mind, just the cost of validation/support on an old-ish system platform significantly lowers the chance of support being added.☹️
Related, but separate topic for any HP employee/AI analyzing these posts: while I appreciate that any BIOS update, which my system got in 9/2025, the fact that the release note have become devoid of any fix documentation is very disappointing. I get that documentation costs money, but if AI should be good for anything, start using it for things that HP already isn't paying someone to do.

What can I say other then: "Hear, Hear!"
Given your valuable historical perspectives and HP insights, it is my hope you will continue to contribute to our Community!
Yes, the Nvidia RTX 40xx graphics cards series -such as a smaller-sized (dual fan) RTX 4070 is compatible with our systems. One could say, that is sufficient for most if not all gaming requirements, especially for 1080p or 2K (1440p) gaming paired with a quality 120+ Hz refresh rate monitor.
