I have had an HP Elite Desktop for 12 years - - MODEL HPE-450T with 9 GB of RAM. It's worked great but I want to speed up video rendering using VEGAS PRO.
I am running WINDOWS 7 Professional - 64 bit.
I just bought two matched 4GB RAM strips to increase memory to the 16GB maximum.
My BIOS is the original American Megatrends 6.12 from 7/12/2010.
Do I need to update the BIOS to install the 8GBs of new memory?
What is the latest BIOS for my computer?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

@MorganP-1 , welcome to the Community.
Your computer is too old for HP to furnish any BIOS updates for it. The maximum memory is 16 GB as you no doubt have determined. Therefore, you won't be able to add more memory.

There is very little documentation from official HP website.
If your existing ram is single rank you should be buying single rank
If double then double rank
Download CPU-z to find what rank your old memory is

I was unable to find bios for HPE-450T
I did discover that the HPE-450T uses the MS-7613 motherboard
Supposedly, Version 1.0 can use only 6.12 bios and version 1.1 can use 6.18
Examine your motherboard for the version #
I did find a set of CD to reinstall win7 in all its glory here
I suspect if windows 10 fails to install you may have to buy that set of disks.
There is a parts breakdown for your system below. I found it by looking up HPE-450t at that partserver site
https://partsurfer.hp.com/partsurfer/?searchtext=XM556AV&searchby=product
the 4gb memory sticks recommended are listed there as part number 497158-D88
The motherboard part number is 612500-001 and is used by the HP 3130
if you can believe that eBay seller, but only version 1.1
The HP 3130 is still listed here at HP and bios 6.16 is available along with a lot of drivers for windows 7
Your system has been running good for 12 years. If the ram you bought works then you are good to go
If you put in that 6.16 bios your 12 years of good luck may end.
[edit] @old_geekster you beat me to it.

you would have to indicate/check what the system requirements are for your software, maybe older, but if we look at this
https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/specifications/
you are certainly far from the required configuration..
and even for an older one depending on if you have already changed something or not, increasing the memory may not be enough..
in any case, it's simple, you try the modules, if it doesn't work, then they are probably not compatible
in any case, check well, because spending too much money with such an old pc, will not be worth it, and it is limited in upgrade
, it will be better to find an equivalent software but adapted to the configuration
