My HP Elitedesk 800 SFF (G1) suffered a hardware failure.  I ordered a used HP EliteDesk 800 G1 Mini Desktop Intel i5 4th Gen.

I'm just curious if they might use the same Ram, as I have 16 gigs of ram in the one that failed.  I doubt they do, but I would like to know if anyone knows.

Hi, @Michael_Piziak

The EliteDesk 800 G1 Desktop Mini PC does not use the same form factor memory as the Elitedesk 800 SFF.

The 800 G1 DM uses DDR3L-1600 SODIMM memory like that used in notebook PC's and the 800 G1 SFF uses UDIMM memory found in most standard desktop PC's.

The Crucial memory report shows the difference:

800 G1 DM:

Crucial 4GB DDR3L-1600 SODIMM | CT51264BF160B | Crucial.com

800 G1 SFF:

Crucial 4GB DDR3L-1600 UDIMM | CT51264BD160B | Crucial.com

While the memory has the same performance specs, if you were planning on using the memory from your 800 G1 SFF in the 800 G1 DM, it will not fit.

Not by a long shot.

ok, I changed the solution to your post.

Which of the links is the memory for the new mini hp I'm getting - your first crucial link?

Also, do you know how many memory bays that the one I get will come with.  All I know is that it has 8 gigs ram, I don't know if it has 2 4 gig ram chips in it or just one 8 gig ram - will see when I get it.

Hi, Michael:

The 800 G1 DM will support 2 x 8 GB of memory.

This is the 8 GB DDR3L-1600 Crucial memory chip part number:

Amazon.com: 8GB, 204-pin SODIMM, DDR3 PC3-12800, : Everything Else

Thanks so much - it's very affordable.

And if I read you right, it will take a maximum of 16 gigs.  Which is more than enough, as Linux usually doesn't use much more than 5 gigs of ram from a monitoring app I use.

You're very welcome, Michael.

Yes, that is correct.  The 800 G1 DM has two SODIMM slots and supports 2 x 8 GB of memory.

Here is a handy reference document for the 800 G1 model series and its features...DM, SFF and MT.

Microsoft Word - HP_EliteDesk_800_G1_Business_PC_Series_QuickSpecs_12.03.13.docx

I have the 800 G3 DM and it packs quite a punch for such a diminutive sized PC.
