I tried inserting the hdmi to the monitor's hdmi/vga adapter and what I got in monitor was "input not supported". I thought it could be a resolution issue and tried decreasing the resolution to lowest, but still got the same issue.

If your monitor only has a VGA input, you will need a new monitor or a monitor with an HDMI input or a monitor that at least has a DVI input if you want to connect your PC to it.
I don't even know why they sell HDMI to VGA cables.
They don't work.
