Good afternoon,
I have an HP Z420 workstation that is running Windows 7pro as its OS.
Unfortunately, I am missing a few drivers according to what is listed in Device Manager. Last year Mr. Paul_Tikkanen here on the forum was a great help with a similar issue on an HP Envy our ministry was setting up.
I have check every where that i know to locate these drivers, on HP as well as Windows,
but have not been able to find these available. Your help will be greatly appreciated in locating these drivers listed in attachments below.
Thank you sincerely,
Eric Wilson - Isaiah Ministries

Hi:
Below are the links to the drivers you need for W7...
SMBus controller and a few other of those devices. Install this driver first and restart the PC.

Thank you Paul,
I will let you know once I have them all installed either this evening or tomorrow.
You have been a great help with our work here, and I really do appreciate all that you have done.
Thank you,
and may God bless and keep you!

Good morning Paul,
The driver installs all worked perfectly, except for the last 2. For some reason, even though I attempted multiple times (with "Restarting the machine), still no response. I have included below the screen shots of the error message.
SAS Controller:
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp56501-57000/sp56779.exe
Ethernet Controller:
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp62501-63000/sp62837.exe
note: One other item that I noticed after receiving the HP Z420 workstation . . . The ethernet input on the back is not the original from the manufacturer. It has been replaced. Does this cause a problem with the drivers ?
Thank you again for your help,
Eric Wilson

Good morning, Ed.
Yes, that could make a difference.
I looked up the ID and it appears to be an Intel 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection.
See if this driver works...
Intel® Network Adapter Driver for Windows 7* - Final Release
The driver for the SAS controller should have worked.
I used 7-Zip to extract the driver files from the exe file and it has support for the hardware ID you posted as shown in this partial copy and paste of the driver setup information file below...

So, what I suggest you do is to try manually installing the driver as follows...
Go to the device manager. Click on the Intel SAS Controller device needing the driver.
Click on the driver tab. Click on Update driver.
Select the 'Browse my computer for driver software' option, and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file.
That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp56779.
Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and the driver should install.
Then restart the PC.

Hi Paul,
The driver for the Ethernet seems to have solved that problem. Praise the LORD !
But, when I attempted to manually install the SAS driver and restart . . . this is the notification I received (attached below).
so I though that maybe I simply needed to restart the HP Z420, and attempted to do so . . . however, the computer would not restart.
I also noticed that all of the USB ports on the front of the machine stopped working.
I had to restore the computer to the point before the changes were made.
I reinstalled the Ethernet driver, and the computer is operating correctly now, but I am not sure hw to fix
the SAS driver problem.
note: When I was finally able to install the Windows 7pro (OS), I did not install as UEFI,
but rather I simply did so as Legacy. Is this why the notice about the SAS driver being SATA would cause a problem ?
Thank you,
Sincerely,
Eric Wilson

Hi, Eric:
Sorry that driver didn't work.
I suggest that you leave that device uninstalled since it appears to cause havoc to your PC.
You can try this driver instead and if that doesn't work either, unfortunately I don't have any other ideas for you to try.
