I was told that i could use non EEC ram in my system which comes with EEC. Is that possible and is there any disadvantages?

400workstation, welcome to the forum.

 

Here is the User Manual for the HP Z Workstation series.  On Page 55 it tells you which memory is compatible with the motherboard.  It appears that only ECC memory is supported.  Here is a good explanation of ECC memory and why it used.

According to the memory configuration and optimization guide, only ECC is specified.

This system is feedback driven thru Solution and Kudo flags. It's the only means of knowing if you have been served. Please click Accept as Solution, if your problem is solved. To say THANK YOU, press the "thumbs up symbol" to render a KUDO. You can render both Solution and KUDO..
