Hello, looking at a custom built Elite 800 sff G9.

When you select a i7 processor you get the option to add a 65w heatsink for $16.

Looking at HP Parts surfer, it makes it look as if the 400's, 600' and 800's all come with the same 'sps-heatsink 65w sff G9' p/n: N05304-001 regardless of i3, i5, i7. Also looking at images on google make it appear the same, all the heatsinks look like the same P/N.

Can anyone provide some incite in to this. Specifically, I'm wondering if I get a 600 sff G9 with an i5-13600 will it come with a different or lesser quality heatsink than an 800 sff G9 with an i7-13700 and the heatsink upgrade option? Is there any other heatsink available for the 400, 600, 800 sff G9's? Possibly one with a circle copper core and one with out but otherwise look the same?

Thanks

@dmich135,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Having DIY-tinkered with and successfully upgraded a fair number of HP desktops, I am inclined to suggest giving this 95-watt heatsink/cooling fan combo a chance: p/n: L04397-001, as available, for example, via this eBay Seller: For HP Z1G9 Z2G8 Z2G9 SFF Heatsink Fan L04397-001,Gen Intel 95W ENT18 S | eBay.

Reason why I am offering this suggestion is that this CPU heatsink/cooling fan combo is compatible with the HP Z2 Small Form Factor G9 Workstation, which has the same LGA 1700 CPU socket, is compatible with the same processors (both the Intel W680 and Q670 chipsets are compatible with 12th, 13th, and 14th generation Intel Core processors), and a similar Intel Q670 (W680) chipset as the Elite 800 SFF G9.

Having said this, there are no guarantees that this is going to work, thanks to lacking HP documentation and such.

Good luck!

Kind Regards,

Thanks, that particular part looks like it would be an effective solution. I reached out to HP on the original question, they said the heatsinks are the same and the 'thermal kit' is other stuff such as mounting hardware and/or thermal paste. I'd wonder if this case it wouldn't include a higher power fan.

Any chance you know of an OEM down draft cooler with a copper core for the 1700 socket other than the 'Laminar' version. I believe previous socket versions had visibly the same OEM cooler but with a copper core.

Thanks,

Dan
