EliteDesk 800 G2

guys - I know it's not the right thing to do but I need to run some server applications temporarily and need to install Server 2019 baremetal on this home desktop - EliteDesk 800 G2. Since HP doesn't publish Server 2019 drivers, what's my best chance of getting other OS drivers to work? Any generic drivers site or should I just try the Windows 10 drivers and see if they work or perhaps download Server 2019 drivers for a DL380 system?

Thx

Hi:

I would try the W10 drivers.

Try manually install the drivers if the auto install doesn't work.

For the ethernet and audio drivers you should be able to get those from the Intel and Realtek sites respectively.

guys - i can't figure out where to install the NVME drive; just can't find the port. Is there a diagram HP publishes? I have the ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 1TB 3D NAND NVMe Gen3x4 PCIe M.2 2280 Solid State Drive R/W 3500/3000MB/s SSD (...

I don't know what form factor PC you have, but according to chapter 4, page 32 of the SFF service manual, there is no M.2 slot for a NVMe drive.

Sorry I didn't specify - I have the Tower

if this system for sure doesn't take any type of M.2 connection (nvme or pciE), then can I simply add a 2nd SSD 2.5 drive and use a 2.5 to 3.5 adaptor to fit into the 3.5 bay?

Thanks

I can't even find a service manual for the MT but the page 24 of the quickspecs below shows no M.2 slot for the MT either.

You absolutely can 2nd SSD 2.5 drive and use a 2.5 to 3.5 adaptor to fit into the 3.5 bay.

But you have to plug the data cable in the port the hard drive you have in there now is plugged into if you want to use the SSD as a boot drive.

I converted all of my HP business desktop PC's to 2.5" SSD's and they make a huge difference in performance.

The biggest issue I had was trying to find an adapter that works with the hard drive isolation mounting screws.

This is the one I bought which worked for each one of the models I have...dc7800, 8000 Elite, 8200 Elite and even a Dell OptiPlex 7020.

I had to Dremel off the thinner crossbar shown at the top of the illustration so I could attach the SATA data and power cables without putting too much strain on them.

Other than that slight modification which had no impact on mounting the adapter, everything worked out perfectly.

You just install the isolation mounting screws into the adapter, and slide it into the drive bay until it locks.

Your PC should have an extra set of isolation mounting screws on the inside, if you plan on retaining the mechanical hard drive for extra storage.

One more question. I need to install another hard drive but don't have the screws. Can I buy any 6-32 screws or have to buy exact HP ones which  I know is part  837369-001 and very expensive

That is unusual that there isn't a spare set in there.

Anyway, yes you can only use those but there are multiple part numbers for the same screws, and they are pretty cheap on eBay...

Those will not work at all.
