HP EliteDesk 800 G3 mini
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

We used the RS232 (serial) Option Board P/N 834953-001 for the 800 G2 Mini models but, now the design of the option board has changed for the 800 G3 Mini models. Does anyone know if there is a RS232 Option available for the EliteDesk 800 G3 mini series and if so, what is the part number?

From the HP Part Surfer web-site:

Part number 834953-001 is used in more than 200 HP products.

Click here to see the complete list of products.

I am guessing that if you expand that list, you may find that the part is used in your desired model.

Thanks for your quick reply.

I am not able to locate the NEW part number required for the G3 models. The G1/G2 models use p/n 834953-001 (SPS-PCA STAG-S RS232 Option Board DM15). However, this will not fit the G3 models.

Thanks for your reply. However, I fail to see how this could possible fit a G3 Mini.

I'm sure it works fine for Small Form factor or Tower.

well there is allways the USB to serial adapters,... if you go this route stay with the major vendors to advoid getting the **bleep** chipsets that only semi work, ebay is full of these fake clone rs232 devices sold a low prices

even major resellers sometimes also get fooled, but they will usually quickly replace any fake adapters

Thanks for your advice. I'm not sure if the USB to  serial adapters are any better today but, used these in the past, with Windows O/S and they seem to always work intermintently. Communication with the virtual com port stops and requires an unplug/plug of the USB to reestablish comunications.

Does this mean that HP no longer has this option?  Very hard to get the correct answer.

All documentation, that I have referenced, mentions the optional serial port.

usb serial adapters today are light years better than when Vista/win 7 OS's were the current OS's

as i said the trick is to buy a proper one, and that means that the under 15.00 adapters need not apply

depending on your needs a usb serial adapter that supports the full rs 232 feature set can cost upwards of 75.00

read this site for more help and usb serial products

i personall have used the FTDI based adapters and they run rings around the cheaper profilic  adapters
