Elitedesk 800 g2 35w
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just bought a refurbished elitedesk 800 g2 35w with an i5-6500t CPU. It works fine.  The PSU is rated for 65w.

I wanted to upgrade the CPU to i5-6500 which is a 65w CPU running at a higher frequency.  After installing the i5-6500 the computer doesn't boot with 3 long / 4short beep error code.  HP says that error code indicates a power problem (crowbar).  I don't know what crowbar means.

Both i5-6500t  and i5-6500 work on my Asus z270-a motherboard.

Does anyone know if there is a way to make the i5-6500 work on my elitedesk 800 g2 35w computer.

Thanks.

Thanks for your recommendation.

I did what you recommended already.

After more googling I installed a 90w HP power adapter I knew to be good and the computer booted up.  Also the line noise on the speakers cleared up.

I'm good to go now.

Elitedesk 800 g2 65w dm is a pretty tiny and cool.

Thanks for your help.

@redgiant , welcome to the forum.

Here is the Maintenance and Service Guide for the computer.  On Pages 45 and 46 is a list of compatible processors and instructions for replacing them.  Here is what it says that you should do after replacing the processor:

NOTE:After installing a new processor onto the system board, update the system ROM to ensure that the latest version of the BIOS is being used on the computer.  Here is the latest BIOS update for the motherboard.
