I need to updrade my power supply.

I need more power for the GFX I'll use.

I just discover the power supply is  not standard.

So, in 2022 we still have this kind of problem with no standard component?

Who is the genius inside the company takes this decision?

And please don't tell me your power supply is designed, and this, and that...

Any adapter?

Thanks.

@ErminioOttone,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

Your rants against HP idiosyncrasies are not particularly helpful in our HP User Forum, it is what it is.

Your HP EliteDesk 800 G3 Tower according to: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05956608#AbT6 and: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05382325.pdf, is compatible with this 500-watt power supply, which should provide sufficient juice to power up to an HP-branded RTX 3060 Ti.  Here you go: HP p/n: 913290-001 ("Power supply unit 500W, 90% EFF,800 TWR").

You can get them online -albeit pricey.  A quick internet search yielded the following purchase options:

1.) $126.23 (on backorder): https://www.dectrader.com/HP-913290-001-New-GNRC-PSU-500W-90-EFF-800-TWR.html

2.) $191.98: https://www.impactcomputers.com/913290-001.html

3.) $202.14: https://www.ebay.com/itm/234517496805

4.) $219.45: https://www.sparepartworld.com/laptop-spare-parts/internal-power-supplies/internal-power-supplies-91...

You're welcome.

Thanks for the reply, but it seems you didn't understand the question.

I was asking for an adapter not a new power supply and I'd never pay 200 $ for a not standard one.

They are not idiosyncrasies and rants. I feel tired about computer technologies give only problems and waste of time.

Best regards.

@ErminioOttone,

There is at least one adapter method that works great -because I have used it myself on a number of legacy HP desktop upgrade projects: using an ATX 24-Pin to SATA power supply adapter, such as this one: DUAL ATX PSU ADAPTER 24Pin to SATA Dual Power Supply Adapter Cable Card ETH ZEC | eBay.

You can see how I used it: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Upgrading-HP-Elite....  The only difference between my SFF and your Tower project is that you could likely fit an ATX power supply and your graphics card inside the case, rather than parked outside the desktop chassis.

Another possible -albeit unconfirmed- option might be this adapter: https://www.amazon.com/COMeap-Power-Adapter-Workstation-12-inch/dp/B06XW7RWNH/ref=sr_1_2?crid=732MA9....

I mention this latter option, because at least one customer claimed it worked on an HP EliteDesk 705 G3 MT, which shares many similarities with the HP EliteDesk 800 G3 Tower: https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R2ZJM02B996VMO/ref=cm_cr_getr_d_rvw_ttl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B06X....

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,
