I just received an Envy TE01-5100t desktop - advertised as having 2 M.2 expansion slots. I opened the case and while I do see 2 slots, they both already have cards in them. One might be the 1TB SSD I upgraded to, but what is the other one? I had already ordered an M.2 form HP 2 TB SSD for a second drive counting on using the expansion slot. But I see none. Any ideas what I do with my new SSD?

When you look at the motherboard specs, you have to envision a bare motherboard with no components installed, if this is the info you are referring to:
Expansion slots
2 M.2; 1 PCIe x16; 1 PCIe x1
It may indicate two M.2 slots but one is for the M.2 Wi-Fi adapter and one is for the M.2 SSD.
There aren't two PCIe x16 slots for two graphics cards if your PC has one installed, or two PCIe x 1 slots.
On the models I have seen that come with two M.2 NVMe SSD slots, they specify that there is support for two M.2 NVMe SSD's, not just 'two M.2 slots.'
Granted, HP should do a better job advertising that kind of info, but that's how it works.
There are two things you can do:
1. Replace the drive the PC came with if it is a lesser storage capacity with the 2 TB drive.
2. Install the 2 TB drive in a PCIe x1 adapter (if a PCIe x1 slot is available), but the disadvantage to that is the drive will only run at 1/4 of its advertised speed, and you can only use it for storage.
I'd go with replacing the factory drive if it is of a lesser storage capacity.

From its specs, yes it has 2 M.2 slots: 2 M.2; 1 PCIe x16; 1 PCIe x1 BUT only one for storage, another one it for a video card.
Regards.
