Hello

I have the error: "CPU Fan has Failed. PC will automatically power down in a few seconds. Service PC immediately to prevent damage to CPU. "

I've cleaned both fans and the heat sink. They were dusty. But upon placing well-cleaned back in, the error persists. I've googled the parts, it seems I can get the fan or the fan+heat sink. I'm unsure which to purchase, so any advice or suggestions very appreciated.

Thanks so much

Hi @Plymouth2019

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.

Try restoring the BIOS to default on your PC and check if it helps.

  • Turn on your PC keep tapping the F10 key, you will boot into BIOS.
  • From the main or file menu select restore defaults.
  • Select F10 to save changes and exit.

Refer this article to know more information about CPU Fan Failed errors.

Now, run a hardware test on the PC

1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.

3. Perform System Test > Extensive test. Share the result on your next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thank you for your reply. However, that didn’t work, as tapping F10 didn’t send it to BIOS, and went straight to shutdown as previous.

Furthermore your  link for more info on this error is broken?

thanks for any alternate solutions
