The error message below is on my PC since I bought it in 2024 but the date of the update is 2014?

How can I get rid of this as it affects my updates?

I spoke to Microsoft who messed the whole system up and I had to have Windows 11 re installed.

Hewlett-Packard - USB - 12/12/2014 12:00:00 AM - 35.0.56.52825

Install error - 0x80070103

Hi @Coops1961,

Thank you for the response.

Could you please provide the exact model name of your HP desktop? You can find it on a label at the back or bottom of your device. It should look something like "HP Pavilion TP01-2000" or "HP EliteDesk 800 G6".

Looking forward to your response!

Hi @Coops1961,

Thanks for your follow-up!

No worries, I’ll guide you through this step-by-step to identify and resolve the issue with the HP USB update from 2014 that's blocking Windows updates with error 0x80070103.

Identify the Problematic USB Driver

Since it’s not clear which of the USB controllers is at fault, let's isolate it more easily.

Open Device Manager

Press Windows + X → Select Device Manager

Expand these sections:

Universal Serial Bus controllers

Universal Serial Bus devices

Look for any driver names starting with "HP" or showing a yellow warning icon ⚠️.

Tip: You can also right-click each item → Properties → Driver tab, and check if the Driver Provider is "Hewlett-Packard" and the Driver Version is 35.0.56.52825.

Uninstall the Faulty Driver

Once identified:

Right-click on the suspected device > Uninstall device

If there's a checkbox to “Delete the driver software for this device”, check it before uninstalling.

Restart your PC after uninstalling.

Hide the Driver Update from Windows

To stop Windows Update from offering that same outdated driver again:

Download Microsoft’s official tool:
Show or Hide Updates troubleshooter

Run the tool and select "Hide updates"

Look for Hewlett-Packard - USB - 12/12/2014... in the list

Select it and click Next to hide it from future Windows Updates

Manually Install HP USB Drivers (If Needed)

You can also download the latest USB drivers directly from the HP website:

Go to: HP Software & Driver Downloads

Enter your model: HP All-in-One Desktop PC 22-dg0000i

Download and install any available Chipset or USB drivers

Let me know how it goes after these steps, Graham. You’re doing great so far, I’ll stick with you until this is fully resolved. 👍😊
