HP Pavilion 590-p0075na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Existing SSD : Western Digital; WDC PC SN520 SDAPNUW -128G-1006

Existing SATA HDD: Western Digital ; WDC WD 10EZEX-60WN4A1

Motherboard: HP 843B (U3E1)

As the above SSD has not a lot of space remaining, I wish to replace it with a larger capacity M.2  SATA internal SSD and to this end I have purchased a Samsung 860 EVO SATA M.2 (MZ-N6E1TOBW) 1TB.

I removed the existing SSD and together with the Samung 860 EVO SATA M.2, visited a local computer repair shop to ask it to clone the WD SSD to the Samsung.

The shop after unsuccessfully trying to effect the cloning, advised that it is not possible to do this as the two SSD’s are not compatible, because the WD SSD is NOT an M.2 SATA, but is in fact an NVMe type.

As the WD SSD has two notches, I was sure that it is in fact a SATA M.2 type.

Can anyone advise me if the computer shop is correct or not?

Could anyone also advise the correct procedure to do the cloning, if in fact this is necessary.

I look forward to hearing from someone.

Hi:

The product specs indicate that the drive is a NVMe SSD.

I believe that your PC's motherboard only supports NVMe SSD's.

I recommend you exchange the Samsung 860 SATA M.2 SSD for a Samsung 980 (not 980 Pro) NVMe SSD.
