hi
Sorry, but it's not very clear to me
you say you connected the SATA cable ...
But have you properly connected the sata data cable, hard drive / motherboard, but also the sata power cable (usually connected to the power supply box)
If a connector is missing, it can't work

Only those specifically familiar with the Z640 internal 3.5 inch Bays will understand. Both 3.5 inch bays 0 and 1 are hot swap. In other words, they both have rail carriers for each hard drive, and each bay has its own chassis mounted SATA "power/data" connector. From each of these connectors the data cable passes through the back-plane disappearing inside of the chassis. Then re-appears at the bottom of the chassis, so someone can just plug it into the motherboard's SATA connection. There is no sign or clue as to where the power connectors lead to. They disappear into the back-plane.
And besides, this isn't supposed to be difficult for anyone wanting to add a second hard drive. But, then I remembered, it's HP!
If these were Dell machines, It would have just worked with minimal effort.

I understand what you are saying, I have this same principle with another type of computer
only, once the hdd is properly clipped, it is available in the disk management
But here it seems a little more complex to me

I have seen that one, and all else offered by hp. I'm going to try the integrated RAID utility which is accessed during POST. It's the only option left.
Again, it should be as simple as installing the drive into the carrier and then seating the carrier into the drive bay. But, it isn't. This is really ridiculous. If the RAID utility doesn't work, then the user will just have to deal a external drive. Every time I have to work with hp hardware, I always have to re-invent the wheel for it to work. And the website always has no support benefit. Thanks for trying.

You don't understand the cablerouting!
By default the SATA Port 0 is used for the Optical drive
Usually the sSata port 0 is used for the boot drive.
You use a M.2 Sata as the OS-drive. So which port do you use ?
Do your homework and find the right sSata Port for your 3.5" drive.
But be sure: It works!
