Microsoft Windows 11

I have a HP EliteDesk 800 G2 SFF desk top from a office which is slow. It has 16 GB Ram. I would like to know if I can increase the ram to 32 or 48GB. Will the machine take it?

Thanks

Hi:

You should be able to install 4 x 16 GB of DDR4 memory in your PC.

HP - Compaq HP EliteDesk 800 G2 Small Form Factor | Memory RAM & SSD Upgrades | Crucial UK

Before I installed 64 GB of memory in there if you have not done so already, replace the mechanical hard drive with a better performing 2.5" SATA SSD.

That will really pep up your PC's performance.

Try a SSD first and if you want to install more memory afterward, then have at it.

Thank you for this information, I will try the SSD first as you suggested.

You're very welcome.

According to the service manual, chapter 4, page 43, your PC has a space to mount a 2.5" drive.

Maintenance and Service Guide HP EliteDesk 800 G2 SFF Business PC

But you will need to plug the SATA data cable from the 3.5" drive to the 2.5" drive.

The boot drive SATA data cable must be connected to the dark blue SATA port.

See the note in chapter 4. on page 39:

NOTE: The data cable for the primary hard drive must be connected to the dark blue connector on the
system board labeled SATA0 to avoid any hard drive performance problems.

You could purchase a second data cable and use the 3.5" drive for storage, or you could just disconnect the power from the 3.5" drive, you wouldn't even need to remove it, and only use the 2.5" drive.
