Godday, my english is so-so, so if my grammer seams weird you know the reason.

Anyhow Im helping a friend out with his HP desktop pc. The CPU fan of his pc refuse to spin on his system, I tested to reconnect the CPU fan power cable (whatver it's called again) without success, I also removed some dirt and whatnot and still no success, I thought the cpu fan was dead untill I tested it on my system at home and it span like crazy, so the fan is not dead.

Im unsure of what to do next, or rather somewhat clueless and I would love to have some suggestions what to do next.

Does the HP motherboard have several points where a fan can be connected?

Since the fan spins in your computer, try the fan in each of the connectors on the HP motherboard, to see if the fan works at any of those connectors.

Can you temporarily remove the fan from your computer, and try it in the HP computer?

Hi

You can test the processor fan, as that "other person" suggested, on other MB fan headers (if available) on your friends HP PC.

But you will have to have a replacement fan connected to the CPU heatsink and wired to the specific CPU fan header.

The PC will give you a "No CPU Fan Detected" error message and probably shut down if no CPU fan is detected at boot.

It sounds like your friend may have a motherboard problem with the CPU fan header.

Thank you both for the answers.

I havent thought about different ways to connect the cpu fan, I will check it out early next week and see if there are any change, hopefully that will be that.

"Can you temporarily remove the fan from your computer, and try it in the HP computer?"

unfortunately no, it is still at my friends house next town, I would like to fix it here and now but that is not the case.

could be, I hope not because then there is not way to fix his pc, or rather he can still use it but not do anything heavy like gaming or whatnot, oh well if that is the case..

I cant get to him until early next week, should I make a new post by then or just reply the same post I made now? Becase im unsure of if people will still be viewing this post after 3 days.

Post when you have something to post. When you do, every volunteer who has contributed to this thread will get an E-mail notification that you have posted, and they should react by accessing your post.

First I have to say that Im awfully sorry to reply in such a late date, I have been sick since friday and had no energy to do anything.

Anyhow the problem was solved, the cpu fan spinns now.

The mobo cpu_fan pin was still busted as the last time, so I tried to connect the cpu fan to the system_fan pin instead and it worked wonders, the cpu fan spinned and all! The only problem was that the system_fan had been previously used by the rear fan for airflow, and having no airflow seemed stupid so I connected the rear fan to the cpu_fan pin and it worked also. So in short I simply swapped both of them (the fans).

Now when the issue is fixed, should I then use "accept as solutíon" under options, which is located top right of any comment/reply?
