My fan sounds like an airplane taking off, mostly when Google is running, but it happens at other times as well.  I uninstalled as many programs as I could just in case they are causing the issue.  Unfortunately, I can't uninstall Google because I HATE Internet Explorer and Edge even more.  Are there any other things I can try?

I saw someone mention the CMOS battery, but that seems unlikely since the fan runs heavy intermittently and not all of the time.

Help!!!

Thank you!

Hi:

It could be due to:

Dust buildup in the fan/heatsink area which restricts airflow and cooling.

No matter how clean you keep the area, dust gets inside the components over time.

Thermal paste has dried out, and needs to be re-applied.

Or both.

Here is the link to the service manual for your PC:

Unfortunately, the service manual is not going to provide instructions for removing the heat sink and reapplying thermal paste.

Thank you, as always your are right there to help 🙂

I upgraded the RAM last month and cleaned a lot of dust out with an air can.  I'll check the fan again.  It is an old PC and that was the first time I ever opened it.  I'll let you know what happens.

You're very welcome.

Check the heat sink fins also to make sure they are clear of dust.

Paul you are a genius!  I cleaned the dust off the fan and so far soooo quiet.  I'll let you know if anything else crops up 🙂

An old computer can be limping along so when you have to open it up to fix something you never know if that's going to be it.  Suffice it to say that I was worried about opening it up again.  All turned out okay, very happy!

Thank you!
