A couple of years ago, I bought an HP Blu-Ray Writer model BDDVDRW CH20L so I could play Blu-Ray DVDs on my computer. I would like to find out if any firmware updates for this model are available. I should note that I bought the drive on eBay, and that NO software was included. I am currently using CyberLink Media Suite version 12, customized for Dell PCs, running under the 64-bit version of Windows 10 I have recently read that some newer Blu-Ray DVDs will not play on older Blu-ray drives because "some DVD Drives change the numbers inside to fight piracy." Since this drive is only about 2 years old, do I need to be concerned about this? I ask because I'm about to purchase the new Blu_Ray DVD of the original Jonny Quest cartoon series, and several users have already reported such a problem. How should I proceed? Thanks in advance for any help or advice!

The latest firmware for that drive is BC34. Check the drive firmware per this document

I checked the "Details" tab. The closest thing I could find to what you described was the "Device instance." Her is what was recorded there: SCSI\CDROM&VEN_HP&PROD_BDDVDRW_CH20L\4&26D2A460&0&030000. How should I proceed now?

Well that did not turn out as expected. Here is a software that can tell more than what you wanted but it does have the ability to tell the firmware version, too. Assuming it will work on a newer drive. It is older than the BluRay drives.
You might need to click on some extra tabs to get the firmware version.

I used Google search to find a place but it was not HP. You can try the same thing. Use "BDDVDRW CH20L firmware update"
The site
https://burners.burn4free.com/hewlett-packard/hp-ch20l-driver.htm
Claims to have it.

I did as you suggested, but without success. I checked online and found several sites that claimed to have the firmware, but all I found were installers that required a "subscription." I even tried one or two of them, but again, no luck! If you have any further suggestions, I'll gladly consider them. Otherwise, I'll just have to throw in the towel!

Well I found that the drive is a rebadged LG CH10LS20 and a way to force the firmware update but there is a chance that will not help. Since the LG firmware does not use the same version numbers, you are just asking for problems.

I suggest that you try the Jonny Quest cartoon series BluRay on the drive before trying anything with the firmware.

Unfortunately, the "flasher" utility you mentioned is no longer available. I'll do some checking on LG firmware updates for that model and see what I can find out. Maybe--just MAYBE--they'll have a solution. In any case, I will try getting the Jonny Quest Blu-ray disc set and see what happens.
