HP Pavilion HPE h9-1120a
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My desktop is a Pavilion HPE h9-1120a (i7 3770, GTX 580). My motherboard is an IPMMB-FM (Formosa) which I updated to run on 8.21 BIOS (Revision A).

My BIOS settings are Legacy support: enabled and Secure boot: disabled. Are those correct settings for upgrading? (My BIOS is a Legacy BIOS, apparently some new cards only work in UEFI, but that problem happens with AMD cards apparently, I just don't know for sure).

My old Graphics card was an nVidia GeForce GTX 580, my new one will be an ASUS GeForce GTX 1660 Super. The power supply is fine (600W). Will it be compatible?

Update: The ASUS GTX 1660 Super worked without a hiccup, didn't need to change a thing it was just plug and play (I didn't need to do anything to make it work, didn't need to change the PCI SERR# generation setting ). And it worked fine on a Legacy BIOS anyway.

My settings were secure boot: off, legacy support: on, BIOS Version 8.21 (Revision A) on the IPMMB-FM (Formosa) if anyone else wants that information.

Hello
I can't guarantee it, but a big chance ..
I have this model, same motherboard:

https://support.hp.com/fr-fr/product/HP-Pavilion-HPE-h9-Phoenix-Desktop-PC-series/5258492/model/5297...
I was able to test an nvidia gtx 1070 card on it!
I just had to change the pci SERr option (from memory deactivate)

There is a HP document ( for example ) :

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04162759

Allows you to enable or disable:
  • PCI SERR# Generation. Default is enabled.
  • PCI VGA Palette Snooping, which sets the VGA palette snooping bit in PCI configuration space; only needed when more than one graphics controller is installed. Default is disabled.

I do not remember exactly what happened exactly, because on the first reboot it did not work, I do not remember if it was the change pci SERR which worked, or if it was something else!

Were you in UEFI or Legacy BIOS when you got it to work? Will the GTX 1660 Super card be compatible with Legacy BIOS?

HP Recommended

I did not modify this option, that of origin therefore, I can not check currently!

it would be necessary to check with the manufacturer
This type of card should be compatible

Just to be sure, it was the 'Pci serr# generation' disable that made it work?

Hello
I checked the bios options, so pci serr# was disabled.
So I had probably changed the option, because the default settings is activated!
Maybe it was just a bug in the installation

finally it was well worth the trouble to answer finally ...
