OMEN 30L Desktop PC GT13-1000i (1S3R9AV)

Hello everyone,

My computer operates normally, but when I start gaming, the GPU turns off after a while. Well my screen goes black and tells me displayport connection gone, I still have sound but the fans of the GPU also turn off.  Its a Prebuilt HP OMEN but I have the feeling its getting too warm maybe?

How can I fix this problem? the computer should be able to play CS2 or WWZ without problems.

I've updated BIOS, Drivers. Done a fresh install of the whole pc to see if that would fix it but still no solution.

@scrapmetal,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

I understand how frustrating it can be when your OMEN 30L GT13-1000i shuts off the GPU while gaming. Let's go through some troubleshooting steps and also check if your system is still under warranty.

1. Check Warranty Status:

Before proceeding with any repairs, let’s check if you still have an active HP warranty:

If your warranty has expired, you might consider a local repair shop if hardware replacement is needed.

2. Diagnosing the GPU Issue:

Your symptoms suggest one of the following:

Overheating: The GPU shuts down to prevent damage.
Power Supply Issue: The PSU might not be providing stable power.
Driver/Software Conflict: Though you've reinstalled the system, let's double-check drivers.

3. Troubleshooting Steps:

A. Monitor GPU Temperature:

  • Install HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner and check your GPU temperature while gaming.
  • If temps exceed 85°C, overheating is likely the problem.
  • Solutions:
    • Clean dust from the GPU and case (especially heatsinks and fans) using compressed ("canned") air.
    • Reapply thermal paste if the GPU is overheating badly.
    • Improve airflow by adjusting case fans or opening the case for testing.

B. Power Supply Check:

  • If your PSU is failing, the GPU may shut off under load.
  • Try using a different power cable (if modular PSU).
  • Test another GPU if possible to rule out GPU failure.

C. Roll Back or Update GPU Drivers:

  • Even if you've updated drivers, try:
    • Use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) to fully remove GPU drivers.
    • Reinstall the latest NVIDIA driver from NVIDIA’s website.

D. Underclock the GPU (For Testing):

  • Sometimes factory overclocks can cause instability.
  • Use MSI Afterburner to reduce core clock by ~100MHz and test again.

4. Next Steps:

  • If under warranty, contact HP Support Netherlands here.
  • If the warranty is expired, a local repair shop can diagnose hardware failures.
  • If the GPU is confirmed faulty, consider a replacement or RMA if possible.

Let me know if you need more help! 😊

Kind Regards,
