Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, I've been lurking around here for a short while. I've got a 580-023w PC, and I'm looking to upgrade the GPU. So far I've upgraded the RAM to 16gb, and upgraded from an HDD to an SSD. I've got a 650w PSU on the way as well as an i7-7700 CPU.

Now for the GPU. The 580-023w comes with a RTX 1060 3gb, and I'm looking to upgrade to a RTX 3050 6gb. Is this a decent upgrade, or should I just stick with the 1060? I'm relatively new to the scene, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

@Tor2ga,

I would recommend a smaller-sized (dual fan) RTX 4060 8GB for your HP Pavilion Power Desktop - 580-023w (Z5N95AA) such as this Amazon purchase example, as these cards are priced very well these days (less than $300 new), and it would actually give you a meaningful graphics upgrade compared with the ageing GTX 1060 3GBhttps://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-RTX-4060-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1060-3GB/4150vs3646.  The RTX 4060 offers one of the very best cost-to-graphics performance ratios at the moment.

The RTX 3050 6GB is a decent card, but it would basically only provide a relatively minor incremental graphics improvement: https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-1060-3GB-vs-Nvidia-RTX-3050/3646vs4127.

The 650-watt power supply provides more than sufficient power for the RTX 4060 (only a minimum of 400-watt is needed), but it is better to have more power -better to have it and not need it, than needing it and not having it.

Kind Regards,

@Tor2ga,

And lest I forgot: you could upgrade your processor to an i7-7700K, as this HP 580-023w User showed: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/64022169.

Thank you for the welcome and reply! I also noticed in another thread that you said a 2060 super would be good as well. I ended up finding a pretty decent deal on one of those, so that's what I ended up going with!

@Tor2ga,

The RTX 2060 Super is a great graphics card, capable to run games from high up to ultra settings (you'll have to try it out) in 1080P!
