Hello.

I would like to upgrade my pc with a graphics card.

I own the HP pro tower 290 G9.

It has an i5 12400 CPU with the UHD 730 integrated GPU.

Also i have a total of 32 GB of DDR4 Ram.

The power supply is only 180w and i want to upgrade my pc with the Sapphire AMD RX 6400  LP graphics card with needs a max of 53 watts.

So my question is - will my PC 's PSU handle this graphics card  or i need to upgrade my PSU also?

Thank you in advance

According to the specs, an HP Pro Tower 290 G9 can be powered with either a 180-watt (p/n: L89235-001), 350-watt (p/n: M49611-001), or a 500-watt) p/n: L77487-001 or L89233-001) power supply.

Whether or not your 180-watt power supply can power an RX 6400 is sort of hit-and-miss: meaning, some customers have reported no issues whatsoever, whereas other Users have reported that an RX 6400 wouldn't work with a 180-watt power supply.

Personally, that is, if you can afford it, I would upgrade the power supply to either the 350-watt or the 500-watt option, and install a smaller-sized (dual fan) RTX 4060 such as this model: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/asus-dual-rtx-4060-v2-oc.b11456.

Kind Regards,

Ok thank you for the reply.

I guess you're right.

Upgrading the PSU is safer and gives me more options for GPUs.
