Hello! I'm new here to this community and I have a quick question, Is it possible to upgrade a Pavilion Desktop's Graphics card? I wanna build this computer to a performance one, But first I wanna get a PSU incase I need to increase the Power usage, the graphics card I plan to get is a GTX 1660ti, and the model computer I'm getting is TP-01 2225xt. unless there is an alternative option, I just wanna know if it's possible to do.

Thanks

@Reverion_Red,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

According to https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/graphics-cards/gtx-1660-ti/, a GTX 1660 Ti requires a 450 watt minimum power supply.  According to https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/pdp/hp-pavilion-desktop-tp01-2225xt-bundle-pc#techSpecs, the HP Pavilion Desktop TP01-2225xt PC has a 310 watt power supply.  That limits your options to low power graphics cards only, such as the GTX 1650, such as this one, for example: https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-GeForce-Graphics-Windforce-Gv-N1650OC-4GL/dp/B081L3PSGK/ref=sr_1_3?c....

Hope this helps.

Kind Regards,

Thank you for answer! But I do wanna know, even if I wanted to upgrade to the 1660ti, can I upgrade the PC's power supply to 450w?

Thanks again though!

@Reverion_Red,

I apologize -let me just say that specific product information is challenging to come by for HP aficionado Users like myself who try their very best to answer questions in this HP User Forum.

Even when a potential customer asked the following question with regard to the HP Pavilion Desktop TP01-2225xt PC, the HP Team's answer was, well, incomplete, in my opinion.  My biggest gripe is that HP almost never reveals concrete (upgraded) part numbers, and the HP Team's response, quote: "this HP Pavilion Desktop TP01-2255t PC can be upgraded" unfortunately tells us nothing what that actually means: 450 watt?  500 watt? -etc.

Anyhow -my apologies: I am digressing.

Moving on, I am 92+% confident that the stock 310 watt power supply fitted in the HP Pavilion Desktop TP01-2225xt PC has HP part number: L10875-800 ("Power Supply - PSU 310W SFF FR Gold").  The problem is that this HP power supply has a proprietary non-ATX industry power supply design that comes without PCIe 6+2 / 8-pin power connection(s) to power graphics cards.  Besides needing a 450+ watt power supply, a GTX 1660 Ti requires one 8-pin PCIe power connection, which is not available.

So, I would contact HP and ask for specifics: what upgraded power supply is available, and does it come with a 6+2 / 8-pin PCIe power connection cable?

[EDIT] If there is indeed a 450+ watt power supply unit substitution available -probably as I suspect without a PCIe 8-pin power connection cable, we can think about splitting off power through a dual-SATA to 8-pin PCIe power connection.  Mind you, powering a GTX 1660 Ti like this is not ideal.  DISCLAIMER: this power modification is NOT approved, recommended or certified by HP, apply at your own risk.  Be reminded that if you apply this in a new desktop, you void warranties.

@Prométhée,

Le plus excellent! -That is a really good suggestion.  And it would absolutely work for @Reverion_Red -it even has a 6+2 PCIe power cable, but even if not, the aforementioned dual-SATA to 8-pin PCIe power adapter cable should do the job to power a GTX 1660 Ti with this 500 watt power supply just fine.

However, unfortunately the L81009-800 ("Power Supply - 500W WS20 FR Gold") is unavailable "on backorder" via HP: https://parts.hp.com/hppartsIGSO/Cart.aspx?mscssid=10399D3F1C8A41A9ABC8BBFC03CF950C&setDest=Cart&jum...,

 and the only place I was able to find this power supply unit for sale was in Great Britain via eBay: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313&_nkw=HP+L81009-800&_sacat=0.

Personally I think it would be worth-it to order this unit, but be prepared to pay $133 + VAT (tax).

Now, since you brought up the 500 watt L81009-800 power supply, I have been looking into this 500 watt power supply: the HP L77487-003 (L89233-001), which, come to look at it, appears to have the same dimensions/specs as the L81009-800, but I got nowhere to verify that it would be compatible with the HP Pavilion Desktop TP01-2225xt PC...

Kind Regards,
