Pavillion HPE h8-1210t
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After installing the MSI Gaming GeForce GT 710 2GB GDRR3 64-bit HDCP Support DirectX 12 OpenGL 4.5 Single Fan Low Profile Graphics Card (GT 710 2GD3 LP) graphics card, my PC will not boot up.  I just get a black screen and a few beeps 15-20 seconds apart.  I have read a ton of posts about this issue but nothing I see fits my exact situation and PC configuration.  It seems like this card should work with the PSU of 300W and UEFI BIOS mode.

I wanted to post this first before I attempt to update the BIOS and hopefully fix it (as in this case - https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Boot-and-Lockup/Upgrade-BIOS/td-p/7081866) or ditch the card and buy a new one.  It seems possible to get cards not found here to work - http://www.pc-specs.com/mobo/HP/HP_IPISB-CH2_(Chicago)/1627/Compatible_GPUs.

Thanks for any help with this.

You're very welcome.

I don't think any BIOS update would work on your PC, except the one on your PC's support page, under the W7 driver section.

The 8.xx updates were written for different motherboards, such as the S5 PC you posted in that link.

Hi:

The reason the card doesn't work is because your PC only has a BIOS version 7.xx and that card requires a BIOS version 8.xx or newer in order to work.

I checked your PC's support page, and there are no version 8.xx BIOS updates to update to.

The only suggestion I can offer other than using a legacy video card in your PC (Nvidia GT 6xx or older, AMD Radeon HD 6xxx or older), would be to watch this video and see if what worked for that person, also works for you...

Note: You can just press F1 at the HP boot screen to boot it without the crackling noise. Pressing F12 without touching Esc also seems to work for some. Alt + F10 has been reported to work, too. Note 2: Not all Cupertino2s are built equal, it seems, and some of them will still fail to run free ...

Thanks, Paul.  Unfortunately, that trick from the video link did not work for me.  However, the example in the video was done after upgrading BIOS version 7.16.  Would there be any harm in trying to upgrade to the latest BIOS version 7.xx?

Also, my computer shipped with Microsoft Windows 7 Home that I upgraded to Windows 10 Home a few years ago.  And looking at the below case, I am wondering if upgrading to any available 8.xx BIOS update would work.  I realize that config and card are different than mine and that it's unsupported, but I am still hoping to make this card work somehow.  Thanks

Thanks again.  With no other options other than moving backwards to an older graphics card, I am just going to purchase a new PC.
