I don't even know how someone can install an OS in a SSD and then expect it to work in any PC you install it in.
There are different drive controllers used, different hardware such as the chipset and whatnot. AMD or Intel would make a difference.
And a workstation's drive controllers are different than those used in most non-workstation PC's.
I have installed drives with an operating system on them from one PC to another, but they were pretty closely related as far as the specifications.
Seems like too much trouble to me to get a NVMe SSD to work in the PC.
I knew you could do it with the duet software (you can do that on even older PCs than yours) but on some PC's the drive is automatically recognized by the BIOS as a bootable device and there's no difference in getting the drive to work as if it had been in a M.2 NVMe SSD slot.

Hi, finally got hold of a SSD 😀
It is a Samsung 870 EVO 500g
The only thing I noticed is that the Z620 uses a special adapter bracket for mounting a 2,5 inch.
I am thinking of installing it right below the DVD drive as it has an empty slot there. Only thing is that I have to get hold of a mounting regular bracket, a cable to connect it to the mother board and a cover plate for the drive it sits in.
Or maybe there is a way to place it in the existing empty tray that is there now for the time being.
Then it is on to installing the OS and getting it to work

Yes, that's a very good drive.
Can't you use the 3.5" to 2.5" drive adapter that I had posted last month to fit the drive where a 3.5" drive would normally go in the Z620??
It's only 9 Euros.

No, that won't fit the drive slot.
It's a HP designed mouting and only something like this would fit in the original slot, but its half the money I paid for the SSD just for a simple piece of steel

Are there things to take in consideration when to install the drive (SSD in this case) and set it up for installing windows, for example, before powering up and getting ready to install?
Is there some sort of checklist or workaround?
I got this Z620 second hand and from a third party so I don´t know what the previous owner did with it.
I want to install the SSD in a the dummy tray at the front side underneath the DVD drive, because it fits, the SSD has no moving parts in it and I save room for an extra drive that way.
Its been a while since I've fiddled with pc's and am new to workstations as well. I have no OS at hand other than there is one installed on a other second hand pc that I don't use, it is W10 but not sure if it is OEM.
I heard some years back that W10 was still downloadable for free from the official site?
