Hi @Jmoore37,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding upgrading the graphics card on the HP Envy 750-424 desktop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Compatibility Check:

  • Space and Size: Ensure that the new graphics card physically fits inside your tower. Measure the available space to accommodate the card's dimensions.
  • Power Supply: Check the wattage of your existing power supply unit (PSU). High-performance graphics cards often require more power. Ensure your PSU can deliver adequate power for the new GPU.
  • Slots: Your desktop needs to have available PCIe slots for the graphics card. The HP Envy 750-424 typically supports PCIe x16 slots.

Performance Needs:

  • Determine Usage: Consider what you plan to use the new GPU for—gaming, video editing, virtual reality, etc.—as this will guide your decision on the level of performance required.
  • Budget: Determine your budget for the purchase as high-end GPUs can vary significantly in price.

Recommendations:

  • Mid-range Options: NVIDIA GTX 1660 or AMD Radeon RX 560 are good mid-range options that offer excellent performance for gaming and are generally compatible with most Envy desktops.
  • High-End Options: If you're looking for top-tier performance, NVIDIA RTX series (such as RTX 3060 or RTX 3070) or AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT might be suitable. These may require power supply upgrades.

Installation:

  • Follow the installation guide specific to the graphics card model you purchase; typically involving the opening of the case, removal of the old card, and secure installation of the new card, ensuring all necessary power cables are connected.

Driver Update:

  • After installation, download and install the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website to ensure optimal performance.

Considerations:

  • Ensure proper airflow and cooling within the system after installing the new GPU, especially if upgrading to a higher-performance model.

I hope this helps.

@Jmoore37,

No offense, but the previous post was a little too generic in my opinion.

Your HP ENVY Desktop 750-424 (X6F64AA) as fitted with the Odense2 motherboard (SSID: 828A) and powered by a 300-watt ATX (24-pin) power supply.

I would recommend upgrading your power supply to a 500-watt ATX power supply.  One of the best affordable graphics cards I would recommend for your PC is a GTX 1660 Tihttps://www.amazon.com/EVGA-06G-P4-1667-KR-GeForce-Gaming-Renewed/dp/B08ZNNVR8R/ref=sr_1_3?crid=2RAQ....

Here is an HP 750-424 User who installed a GTX 1660 Ti: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/53195812.

Kind Regards,
