I recently installed an RX 6500 XT, and since then my PC won’t boot into Windows. I updated my BIOS. I have an OMEN by HP Desktop PC 880-p0xx. As I mentioned, I updated the BIOS and tried disabling and enabling Secure Boot. I haven’t replaced the CMOS battery yet, but I’m not sure if that would help.

My previous graphics card was a GTX 960, and I have an i5-7400 and 24 GB of RAM. I’ve checked everything and made sure everything is connected correctly. The PCIe power cable is properly connected to the power supply and to the graphics card, but unfortunately nothing works.

I do get a picture on the screen, but that’s all. It doesn’t boot into Windows.

Try these step‑by‑step:

1. Put GTX 960 back in and boot into Windows.
2. Download DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller)
3. Disconnect internet (optional but good).
4. Boot into Safe Mode (Shift + Restart → Troubleshoot → Startup Settings → Restart → press).
5. Run DDU as Admin → select GPU→ choose NVIDIA → click “Clean and shutdown”.
6. PC shuts down. Unplug power, open case:
- Remove GTX 960
- Install RX 6500 XT
- Connect it firmly.
7. Power on and boot into BIOS:
- Set Boot Mode = UEFI (not Legacy/CSM)
- Set Secure Boot = Disabled (for now)
- Save & exit.
8. Try to boot into Windows.
- If it boots: then download and install the amd driver, then reboot.
9. If still no Windows boot:
- Power off, unplug, remove CMOS battery for 2–3 minutes, put it back. (Motherboard manual always provides detailed layout diagrams and instructions for CMOS battery reset)
- Re‑enter BIOS, re‑check UEFI + boot device, save & try again.

If it still fails after this, test the 6500 XT in another PC for faulty GPU.

I have 2 monitors, the problem is that on the rx 6500 xt, only hdmi works, I have an adapter, because with an hdmi cable I connect to displayport, but I don't have another monitor when I connect the adapter to the mainboard or with an hdmi cable, it works, so it's something to do with the graphics or the windows setting. I turned on legacy support in the bios and now the graphics work, but I want to have displayport on the gpu because I hate changing cables all the time

Use a native DisplayPort cable from GPU DP → monitor DP (or a proper DP‑to‑HDMI adapter if your monitor only has HDMI).
Set the DP monitor as your main display in Windows.

i dont understand why my adapter from TV hdmi works on dp Mainboard but not on gpu. maybe gpu needs a cable one site dp one site hdmi or its a hardware issue maybe also a software issue. i am lazy to buy a new cable so if i want to play some games on TV i will just plug in the TV hdmi to hdmi gpu and its done. right now i have on TV Mainboard hdmi Input.

If a DP adapter works on the motherboard but not the GPU, the adapter may be the wrong type, not bidirectional, or simply incompatible with that GPU output
