Hello everyone,

I'm back to let you know that after many weeks of searching and perseverance, I've finally managed to add an MXM format graphic card to my  PC HP Compaq Elite 8300 USDT.

To realize this, I opted for an HP ATI Radeon 6450M graphics card and replaced the original 135 W power supply with a new 230 W one.

As a precaution, I used hot glue to attach an aluminum heat sink taken from an HP ATI Mobility Radeon HD5450M graphics card.

Everything's working perfectly now!

Glue does not conduct heat away and can cause problems and can even melt.

 

use thermal adhesive

If the heat sink is heavy and starts sliding off then use the type of thermal adhesive that you mix together.

 

You could use your glue gun to attach a small fan to the fins of the cooler.   You would have to find a fan header on the motherboard, use a Y splitter or an adapter if there is no available fan header.  I have had to do this before and there are small fans that are designed just for a small cooler.  As long as the fan is spinning the air flow will keep the glue from melting.

Hi everyone,

 

In view of the replies and comments I've received, I'm going to add a few details to the way I made this upgrade to avoid any confusion:

I used thermal paste under the aluminum heat sink, and hot glue in places where there are no electronic components on the graphics card, to fix the aluminum heat sink.
If you don't have the corresponding screws to fix the graphics card to the rear, thermal glue works just fine !
